Sleep Disorder: The Paranormal Psychological View

Sleep disorders fall under paranormal psychology because of the levels of consciousness involved in sleeping or the lack of sleep, dreams and dream interpretation. The Primary Categories of Sleep Disorders are:

1. Dyssomnia
2. Parasomnia

Dyssomnia is abnormalities in:

• amount of sleep
• quality of sleep
• timing of sleep

Dyssomnia includes:

• primary insomnia
• primary hypersomnia
• narcolepsy

Parasomnia is:

• abnormal behavioral or
• abnormal physiological events

The Parasomnia events occur in association with:

• sleep
• specific sleep stages or
• awake transitions

These Parasomnia events are called:

• nightmares
• sleep terror
• sleepwalking
